1. Overview

  • Kernel Log: it keeps records of ANTMINER’s operation stages, which serves a way to troubleshoot some common issues.
  • The method to enter the miner log: enter the miner IP address in the address bar of Google or Firefox browser >> enter the user name/password (default root/root) >> the miner log
  • Log classification: current log, only records the current log when the miner is started; historical log, records the logs that the miner has generated, but the record content is limited, such as if it exceeds the upper limit, only the latest is kept. When the miner is in a fault state, you should check the current log. If the miner is in a normal state, it is recommended to query the historical log.

2. Common Fault Phenomena and Solutions

The following fault examples are from Antminer 19 series mining machines, other Antminer models are      for reference only.

  2.1 The fan is abnormal
When the fan is lost or the fan speed is low, ERROR_FAN_LOST will appear in the miner log as follows:

     Solution

a. Ensure the fan connector has been plugged all the way into the socket and there’s no damage on the fan cable. (Below pictures are bad socket and bad cable examples)

b. Replace with a good fan to test. If it doesn’t solve the problem, replace the control board.

c. Reset the miner to the factory setting.

d. Return the miner to us for repair.

2.2 PIC is abnormal

When the following error message “fail to read pic temp” appears in the log, it means that the PIC is abnormal.

       Solution

Generally, the operation board is abnormal. First, cross-check the cables. You can try to upgrade the firmware or card swipe. If the problem cannot be solved, it is recommended to return it for repair.

2.3 Missing Chips/missing Hashboards

Query the log, if the following is displayed, it means that the hash board has few chips or the hash board has not detected it.

       Solution

a. Missing chips: replace the PSU and ensure the miner is grounded well.

b. Missing hashboard: ensure the cables are good and properly placed.

      2.4 Network Failure

       Solution

Check whether the network cable interface is loose and whether the network delay is normal.

2.5 Power Failure

Solution

Check whether the conductive copper bar is in poor contact, check whether the power control wire is loose or damaged, and replace the power supply.

    2.6 Overtemp Protection

When the ambient temperature is too high, it is easy to trigger the high temperature protection mechanism of the miner. If you see the following information in the log, it means that the operating temperature of the miner is too high.

Solution
a. Check whether the heat sink of the hash board is adhered by foreign objects such as dust, catkins, insects, etc. The dust accumulation on the hash board will cause poor heat dissipation, and it needs to be cleaned and cooled before turning on the miner.
b. Check whether the inlet air temperature of the miner is too high, and confirm that the exhaust air is smooth.
c. Reduce the inlet air temperature, and make sure that the miner operates within the normal temperature range. The recommended operating temperature is 5-35°C.
